PANAJI: After BJP denied him a ticket, Sanvordem MLA Deepak Pauskar today resigned as the MLA. He is likely to contest as an independent candidate.
Pauskar submitted his resignation to Secretary Legislature Namrata Ulman. Pauskar also resigned from the primary membership of the BJP.
“I have resigned as MLA; now either me he or my brother Sandip Pauskar will contest the forthcoming assembly election as an independent candidate from Sanvordem constituency. From 2019, he sincerely worked to strengthen the BJP in the constituency, and now they have denied me a ticket,” said Pauskar.
He further said that despite all this work, injustice has been done to him by denying the ticket.
“The party leadership forgot that in 2019 when Congress was preparing to form the government with the help of the MGP and the Goa Forward, it was me and Babu Ajgaonkar, who took the lead and formed the BJP government in Goa,” he said.
Pauskar also blamed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for denying him the ticket and said that he had known this fact about a year ago when Chief Minister Sawant denied him appointments to discuss problems of the constituency.
He further said that the Sanvordem Progressive Front, which was formed in 2016, will now be revived, and the election will be fought as an independent candidate. We will win the election, he said.
Bharatiya Janata Party has dropped two of their ministers- Filipe Nery Rodrigues and Deepak Pauskar- from the list of 34 candidates released on Thursday, ahead of next month’s Goa Assembly election.
