VERNA: Verna Police have registered a case following a state complaint by HC 5767 Sudeshkumar Dessai of Verna Police Station in connection with a fatal road accident reported at Verna.
According to the complaint, the accident occurred on September 20, 2026, at around 6.15 pm near Sai Marbles Enterprises at Agnel Ashram, Verna. The accused driver, identified as Anil Naik of Fatorda, Margao, was allegedly driving a WagonR car from Panaji towards Margao in a rash and negligent manner, endangering human life.
Police said that when the vehicle reached near Sai Marbles Enterprises, it allegedly hit a pedestrian, identified as Pintu Gaud, a resident of Agnel College, Verna, originally from Uttar Pradesh, who was walking along the side of the road.
Gaud sustained grievous injuries in the collision and later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the impact, the WagonR allegedly also rammed into a parked Eicher truck, resulting in injuries to the accused driver.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Prisly Carvalho of Verna Police Station.
