Panaji: Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi virtually launched the development of amenities in the vicinity of UNESCO World Heritage site at old Goa, the Basilica of Bom Jesus, along with other tourism projects across India on 7th March 2024. This initiative was undertaken by the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.
Shripad Naik, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways & Tourism, Government of India, Shri. Sadanand Shet Tanawade, Hon’ble MP Rajya Sabha, Shri. Rohan A. Khaunte, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication and Printing & Stationary, Government of Goa, Dr. Ganesh C. Gaonkar, Chairman of GTDC, Shri. Rajesh Faldessai, MLA Cumbharjua Constituency, Shri. Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Director Tourism & Managing Director GTDC, Shri. Sidhesh S. Naik, President, North Goa, Zilla Panchayat, Smt. Medha M. Parvatkar, Sarpanch, Old Goa Panchayat and Fr. Patricio Fernandes, Rector of Basilica of Bom Jesus, were present at the launch ceremony at Basilica of Bom Jesus Church area, Old Goa.

Rohan A. Khaunte, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication and Printing & Stationary, Government of Goa stated “As we embark on this transformative journey of enhancing the amenities at the Basilica of Bom Jesus. This endeavor not only elevates the tourism infrastructure of Goa but also underscores our commitment to innovation and progress. We aim to create memorable experiences for visitors while preserving the essence of our cultural heritage.”
Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Director Tourism & Managing Director GTDC welcomed the audience and esteemed guests, while committing to elevate Goa’s tourism infrastructure. The event also showcased an AV/Walkthrough of the project presentation of the audience at the venue with prominance on development of amenities at the Basilica of Bom Jesus which comprises of: Parking Lot, Heritage Interpretation Center, Street Lights at Parking Lot, E-Auto for Tourist Movement, Facade Illumination Visitor Footfall Counting Device and basic pilgrimage amenities like Benches, Dustbin and Signage Boards.
Sadanand Shet Tanawade, MP Rajya Sabha, Ganesh Gaonkar, Chairman of GTDC, Rajesh Faldesai, MLA Cumbhajua Constituency and Fr. Patricio Fernandes Rector of the Church, the esteemed guests, shared insightful perspectives on the significance of the development of amenities at the Basilica of Bom Jesus. Their words resonated with the audience. Dr Pramod Sawant, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa conveyed his heartfelt wishes for the success of the event, reaffirming the government’s commitment to promoting tourism and preserving heritage structures.
The event was attended by a diverse array of tourism stakeholders and members of the general public, highlighting the widespread support for this initiative. Shri. Deepak Narvekar, Deputy General Manager, Marketing GTDC eloquently proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all.
The development of amenities at the Basilica of Bom Jesus marked a significant milestone in preserving and enhancing the spiritual heritage of Goa. This initiative is a testament to the commitment of both the centrahl and state governments towards promoting sustainable tourism and preserving heritage sites.
