VALPOI: Concern has resurfaced among residents after a noodle-like worm was found in tap water in the Valpoi Municipal area, with locals demanding clarity on the identity of the organism and possible health risks.
The latest incident was reported on Tuesday when Deepa Naik, a tenant residing at a house owned by the Kudnekar family, noticed a worm-like organism emerging from a bathroom tap while using water.
She immediately informed the house owner, who later brought the matter to the attention of the Water Supply Department.
Following the complaint, officials from the department visited the location, collected water samples along with the worm, and sent them for further examination. The concerned water storage tank was also flushed as a precautionary measure.
The incident has added to concerns among Valpoi residents, as a similar organism had reportedly been found earlier in tap water, but its exact species has not yet been clearly established.
Residents have urged authorities to conduct a detailed investigation, identify the organism and confirm whether the presence of such worms poses any threat to public health.
