COLLEM: A 39-year-old man from Ponda was found dead after his body was spotted floating in the Dudhsagar river near the forest gate area.
According to police, information was received from PCR Margao regarding a male body seen floating in the river. Police personnel rushed to the spot, where the body was later retrieved from the water.
During inquiry, the deceased was identified as Rajesh Naik (39), a resident of Nagzar, Curti, Ponda.
Police conducted the scene of occurrence panchanama and inquest proceedings before referring the body to South Goa District Hospital, Margao, for postmortem examination.
The police surgeon who conducted the autopsy certified the cause of death as “asphyxia as a result of drowning in water.”
After completion of legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family members for final religious rites.
