PONDA: The body of a 39-year-old man from Ponda was recovered from the Dudhsagar river near the forest gate on Saturday morning.
According to police, information was received from PCR Margao at around 8.44 am regarding a male body seen floating in the river. A police team rushed to the spot and retrieved the body from the water.
During the inquiry, the deceased was identified as Rajesh Naik, a resident of Nagzar, Curti-Ponda.
Police carried out the scene of unnatural death panchanama and inquest proceedings before shifting the body to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao, for post-mortem examination.
The police surgeon who conducted the autopsy certified the cause of death as “asphyxia as a result of drowning in water.”
Following the medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family members for final rites.
