PORVORIM: In a major breakthrough, Porvorim Police have cracked the dacoity case which had occurred in the early hours of Monday.
As per SP North Rahul Gupta, IPS, some 5 armed assailants had broken the door of a rented room at Marra, Pilerne in which the complainant Pappu Biswas was staying and further threatened Biswas and his wife at a knife point and committed theft of his gold ornaments worth Rs.15,00,000 and cash of Rs. 9,00,000.
An iron rod was used to break open the latch of the door. Accordingly an FIR was registered under sections 310(2), 127 of BNSS, 2023 and different teams were formed for tracing the accused persons.
During the investigation based on the technical evidence and CCTV footage, finally the police were able to identify the accused persons. Subsequently police have arrested 5 accused persons for conspiring and committing the dacoity.
The arrested accused persons are namely Joyce @ Priya D’souza, Kalpana Barki, Imran Shaikh, Subhash Kumar and Dhiraj Gupta.
Investigation has revealed that accused person Priya @Joycee D’Souza was the neighbour of the complainant and was aware of the large amount of cash and the gold in possession of the complainant as she was friendly with his family.
Further Joycee planned to commit the crime along with her friends accused namely Krishna Belgaonkar and Kalpana Barki. Accused Krishna than arranged remaining accused persons and Kalpana Barki along with her friend Imran arranged for a vehicle to commit the crime.
After the crime the stolen gold and cash was distributed between the accused persons at a hotel in Calangute.
Accused Joycee D’Souza was previously involved in crime vide Porvorim PS FIR No: 10/2019 U/Sec. 370,342,324,323,504,506 r/w. 34 IPC and section- 4, 5 and 7 ITP Act and Krishna Belgaonkar was involved in murder case at Calangute Police Station in the year 2018 and is presently on bail.
Accused Kalpana Barki was previously involved in a murder case of her own husband at Curchorem in the year 2018 vide Curchorem Police Station vide Curchorem PS Cr. No:- 302, 201, R/w 120-B of IPC.
Police have managed to recover the partial stolen property, the knife used to threaten, the iron rod used to breaking the door and the vehicle used for commission of crime, while more recovery is underway.
More 3 accused persons have been identified and teams have been dispatched for tracing the remaining accused persons.
