MARGAO: Madganvcho Awaaz youth leader Prabhav Naik has questioned the status of the proposed Margao Master Plan 2041, alleging that the city is witnessing unplanned development through isolated projects instead of a comprehensive urban vision.
Reacting to Margao MLA and PWD Minister Digambar Kamat’s recent announcement on appointing a consultant to prepare a drainage plan around the Margao Market, Naik claimed the move highlighted poor planning and unnecessary expenditure of public funds. He said he had raised concerns in April 2026 when tin sheets were erected around the market without a proper drainage and electrification plan.
Naik alleged that appointing consultants for individual works instead of implementing an integrated development strategy reflected haphazard decision-making. He further criticised the proposed hydraulic parking project at the Old Fish Market, the food court at the Old Bus Stand site, and the planned two-storeyed structure inside the Margao Municipal Garden, claiming these projects lacked a unified vision for the city’s future.
Referring to the previously proposed Margao Master Plan 2041, Naik said the plan had been projected as the blueprint for the city’s long-term development but has since disappeared from public discussion.
He questioned whether the master plan had been abandoned or sidelined while major projects were being announced independently. He also asked why the status of the plan had not been made public if it was intended to guide Margao’s development.
Naik demanded that the Margao MLA and the Margao Municipal Council disclose the current status of the Master Plan 2041, including details of expenditure incurred, consultant fees, public objections received, and whether the ongoing projects conform to the proposed master plan.
He maintained that Margao requires planned and transparent development rather than what he described as fragmented projects driven by political considerations.
