PANAJI: The Public Works Department (PWD), Government of Goa, has strongly denied allegations circulating on social media and in sections of the media claiming a “₹1,000 crore scam” linked to contractor enlistment.
In an official statement, the department termed the allegations as “false, misleading and sensational” and clarified that the letters being referred to relate only to the verification of certain documents submitted during the enlistment process of a contractor under the Class I-AA (Super) category.
PWD stated that the matter is currently under detailed examination by the competent authorities as per established procedures.
The department further clarified that no work order has been issued to the concerned contractor after enlistment in the Class I-AA (Super) category.
“Portraying the matter as a ‘₹1,000 crore scam’ is completely baseless, malicious and far removed from facts,” the statement said.
PWD also accused certain social media influencers and individuals of publishing defamatory and misleading content without verifying facts, allegedly in an attempt to tarnish the image and credibility of the department.
The department said it is contemplating appropriate legal action against those spreading “false, defamatory and misleading allegations” against the department and government officials.
Reiterating its commitment to transparency and accountability, PWD stated that contractor enlistment and tender scrutiny are conducted through a transparent system involving multiple levels of technical and administrative checks.
The department added that all complaints received are examined strictly in accordance with law and due process.
