CALANGUTE: Two persons lost their lives and another sustained injuries in a tragic road accident that took place in Calangute on April 26 evening.
As per police information, the accident occurred at around 5:15 pm near Norms Supermarket at Saunta Vaddo. The accused, Shashank Prabhakar Jadhav (36), a resident of Ambarnath in Thane, was riding a blue Activa scooter from the Baga end towards Khobra Vaddo when he allegedly drove in a rash and negligent manner and collided head-on with an oncoming black Activa.
The victims have been identified as Arun Godicha (26), a resident of Guirim, and his pillion rider Anil Ugrejiya (27), currently residing in Candolim and originally from Gujarat. Both were thrown off their scooter due to the impact and sustained grievous injuries. They were rushed to hospital but later succumbed while undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, Sriji Suresh Nair (33), the pillion rider on the accused’s scooter, also sustained injuries in the accident and is presently under treatment.
The offence has been registered at Calangute Police Station based on a complaint filed by Assistant Sub-Inspector Ravindra Gawas. PSI Snehal Malik is investigating the case.
