A total of 33 BJP workers, including Savitri Kavlekar, who was Mahila BJP vice-president, resigned yesterday. In a press briefing later, Kavlekar alleged that the party has betrayed them by promising her to consider her as a party candidate of BJP Sanguem this election.
Savitri Kavalekar said, “I will contest the upcoming assembly elections as an independent as told by my supporter.
When asked the question that BJP gave the ticket to Babush Monserate and Vishwajeet Rane and his wife and why they sidelined her as a candidate from the Sanguem constituency, Kavlekar replied, “I don’t know about these things, but from last five years I am working for this constituency for the welfare of the people, I have been saying that we have been working as a team, and we are getting good support from women who always stand with me.
When asked why she was denied a ticket even though her husband is deputy chief minister on this, she replied that Babu Kavalekar alone could not do it because it is not his decision, but it is a collective decision taken by others.
Later, former Zilla Panchayat member Navnath Naik said that it is a gross injustice because if the BJP party nominates the other two candidates’ wives, then why did they refuse to nominate Savitri Kavlekar? It is a total injustice to her and the BJP workers, Naik added.
