PONDA/DHARBANDORA: What began as a trip to Goa for a couple from Bengaluru ended in tragedy, after a long-standing relationship dispute reportedly led to the brutal murder of a woman in a remote forest area in Dharbandora. The victim’s partner, Sanjay Kevin M, has been arrested by Goa Police in Hubli, Karnataka.
According to South Goa Superintendent of Police Tikam Singh Verma, IPS, the accused has confessed to the crime, stating that he and the woman, who had been in a relationship for five years, got into an intense argument during their journey. After they alighted from a bus at Pillem in Dharbandora, Sanjay allegedly killed her by slitting her throat with a knife.
The body was discovered on Monday morning by locals, who immediately alerted the Ponda Police. A murder case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered, and preliminary investigations led by PSI Ashish Velip confirmed foul play. PI Vijaynath Kavlekar, forensic teams, dog squads, and technical experts conducted a thorough examination of the crime scene.
Investigators quickly identified the suspect through surveillance analysis and mobile tracking, and a police team, with assistance from Hubli Police, arrested Sanjay early Tuesday morning.
Police said that while the couple had travelled together to Goa, growing personal differences and emotional tensions culminated in the fatal confrontation.
The case once again throws light on how unresolved relationship issues can escalate into extreme violence, underlining the need for mental health support and early intervention in domestic and emotional conflicts.
