PANAJI: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Media and Communications Department Chairman Amarnath Panjikar on Thursday criticised the BJP for allegedly removing Congress flags in Panaji, describing the move as an act of political insecurity and desperation.
Panjikar said the BJP was mistaken if it believed that removing Congress flags would diminish the party’s presence among the people.
“If the BJP believes that by removing Congress flags it can erase the Congress from the hearts of the people, it is living in a fool’s paradise. Every flag they remove only strengthens our resolve to raise hundreds more across Goa,” he said.
Questioning the BJP-led government and the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) over what he termed selective action, Panjikar alleged that authorities had failed to act against illegal casino hoardings and advertising boards across the city.
“Panjim is flooded with illegal casino hoardings and advertising boards, yet the BJP Government and the CCP lack the courage to act against them. Instead of removing these illegal structures, they are busy targeting Congress flags. This exposes their double standards and misplaced priorities,” he said.
The Congress leader described the alleged removal of party flags as “cheap, petty and cowardly politics” and said such actions were unbecoming of a ruling party.
“A government that fears the flags of the Opposition has clearly lost its political confidence. Instead of removing Congress flags, the BJP should remove illegal hoardings, corruption, rising crime, unemployment and its anti-people governance,” he said.
Reiterating the party’s position, Panjikar asserted that while Congress flags could be removed, the party’s support base among the people would remain intact.
“The BJP may pull down our flags, but it can never remove the Congress from the hearts of the people,” he said.
