CANACONA – Works has finally begun at the much needed dangerous, sharp and narrow accident -prone Karmalghat for widening of NH-66 road on Thursday.
The Rupees 4- crores worth widening of Karmalghat to Gulem section of NH-66 had actually began now a month ago with the contractor already carrying out widening of NH-66 at two sections beginning at the foot of Karmalghat and near the Bhumipurush Temple Gulem. The works are however,, progressing at a slow pace.
On Thursday, Canacona MLA and GLA Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, just a day back from an overseas official tour, came to witness the marking of the section of NH-66 road at the Sharp, treacherous, dangerous and narrow Curve at Karmalghat by the road contractor.
Agreeing that the issue of widening of NH66 road and the Sharp and narrow Curve at Karmalghat as a long pending one and many accidents and deaths have occurred at the road section, Speaker Tawadkar said, government has taken matter seriously, took it at the door of central minister Nitin Gadkari, who realizing the urgency has given the concurrence in an most immediate manner, processed all other formalities, completed them and the works have started , recently.
Today, the works on the main sophisticated Curve/Turn at Karmalghat is beginning, which was held up due to heavy rains, and some technical issues. These works will be completed between two-three months, positively.’
Speaking further Tawadkar said, there are two issues for Canconcars , the 4-Lane Highway and the sharp turns on Karmlaghat, which will be completed in the 4 years period.
The works on the 4-Lane road from Canacona to Panzorconi (Cuncolim ) via Karmalghat will be started within the next 1 and half years and completed within 4 years, so that no more accidents will happen again.’
Tawadkar stating that he is getting all the cooperation of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, also informed that government has accorded it’s sanction for beautification of Chaudi town to a tune of 18 to 20 crores of rupees.
Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaonkar, Shristhal Sarpanch Sejal Gaonkar, Khotigao Sarpanch Anandu Dessai and Poinguinim Sarpanch Savita Tawadkar, besides Canacona BJP Mandal President Vishal Dessai were also present along with several others to witness the commencement of works at the Karmalghat Sharp turn .
Meanwhile, the Shristhal Biodiversity Management Committee demanded the provision of seating arrangements along the subway/road or a service road to enable the villagers to sit and sell their local produce or carry out their traditional business smoothly. A representation to this effect is submitted to the Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, asking toe make necessary provisions, while working on the 4-lane Balli to Canacona NH66 by facilitating a subway or a service road to enable the villagers sitting on the side of the road in Gulem areas and selling wild vegetables to carry out their traditional business smoothly. Shristhal Biodiversity Management Committee Chairman Vinay Tubki, Members Shirish Pai, Anjali Gaonkar, Sarpanch Sejal Gaonkar, and Ganesh Gaonkar were present.
