MARGAO: South Goa Collectorate today has clarified that the Rs 1,000 contribution was not sought from the employees for the Republic day programme but for a charity event to be organised by Collectorate employees.
The Collector, however, has clarified that the official and staff contribution will be purely voluntary and the initial note stands corrected.
“To clarify, this program is not Republic Day 2023. On Liberation day of 2019, Collectorate voluntarily contributed to organising a program for Child care institutions & old age homes,” said South Goa Collector.
The programme was proposed in line with the cultural programme for special people conducted on Liberation Day 2019 since it was the desire of the Collector, along with all the Officers and the Staff of the Collectorate, South Goa District, to continue the same tradition on 26 January 2023.
South Collectorate Office said that earlier in 2019 also, contributions were collected from the staff to reach out to people from old age homes, orphanages, special children schools, and children suffering from AIDS etc., informed the Collectorate.
Due to covid pandemic, the programs were not held in 2020 and 2021, the clarification further added.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Adv Carlos Ferriera said that Collector is a very responsible officer and IAS officer, and it is complete financial management.
