VALPOI: The government approved the Public Works Department proposal for a new water pipeline for Jharme, Dabe, and Maushi villages.
Officials say that once the new pipeline comes, the drinking water problem of the villages will be solved permanently.
To augment the water supply to Sattari villages, the government has approved Rs 4.91 cr proposal.
The villages of Dabe, Maushi, Jharme in Sattari taluka were facing an acute shortage of water supply, and the proposal was submitted to the government long ago.
Initially, a small pipeline was laid for these villages, but as the population increased, there was a water shortage in these villages.
The proposal was submitted by local MLA and former Chief Minister Pratapsing Rane.
The citizens had demanded that drinking water be provided to the village at the earliest.
Accordingly, the PWD department had prepared a new proposal and sent it to the government for approval.
Under the proposal, a new pipeline will be laid for these three villages through the Dabos project.
Locals say with the new large-sized pipeline, the drinking water problem is likely to be solved.
It is being said a new water tank will also be constructed for the storage of water.
The citizens of the villages have repeatedly raised their voices in the gram sabhas of the Maus panchayat.
The locals say the shortage is due to the construction of houses in the hilly areas.
Even though the government has approved the proposal, the work has to be tendered and will take some time to lay the pipeline.
When contacted, Soma Naik, Assistant Engineer, Valpoi PWD, said the proposal was prepared and sent as per the suggestion of MLA Pratap Singh Rane.
