Goemkarponn desk
MARGAO: A day after coming clear on the Old Goa heritage zone issue, Goa Forward President Vijai Sardesai has written to DyCM & TCP Minister Babu Kavlekar demanding immediate revocation of all permissions given to the illegal structure at Heritage Site at Old Goa.
“I write to you today in light of the ongoing issue regarding the controversial structure in Old Goa, near the church of St. Cajetan. As the people of Goa are rightly protesting for their heritage and that of Old Goa, In the spirit of true Goemkarponn, I urge you immediately to let the Goan public know about the truth over the series of events and permissions that were granted and not granted over this very damaging structure,” Sardesai wrote.
He said “On the matter of this illegal structure, it was your BJP government under the leadership of former CM Laxmikant Parsekar and the late Francis D’souza that
permitted all sorts of irregularities to take place”.
Sardesai has further thrown several questions at Kavekar, asking “What is stopping you from revoking the permissions from this particular case? Why did you allow the constructions to go on? As a TCP and Archives/Archaeology minister, are you not aware
of the ramifications these sorts of developments can have on the heritage buildings around? As a TCP and Archives/Archaeology minister, are you not concerned that Goa’s heritage and archaeological structures are already facing severe damage due to rapid, unchecked development that is causing a strain on the longevity of these buildings? As a Goan, are you not bothered about what future and history lessons you want the children of Goa to live and learn? Are you telling them that with power and money do what you want?”
Sardesai further demanded Kavlekar and the BJP government to revoke all the permission given to the illegal structure by December 3, the day of feats of St Francis Xavier.
