MARGAO: SCM Convener Savio Coutinho charged that the Margao MLA would try and propagate everything possible, except the shoddy sewerage network works executed through the infamous JICA consultancy.
It is so stupid to think that the water from the pond, nearly 200 mts away to seep into the underpass, Coutinho stated.
“The pond existed there even before the underpass was constructed in 2008. And never during the last 14 yrs water seepage seen, which could enable one to claim that the water in the underpass is from the pond,” he added.
Time and again, ever since the sewerage network works were executed, we have been pointing out the shoddy and poor quality work. Today, practically every Manhole chamber has leakages, through which sewage either seeps into the ground or groundwater enters into the maintenance hole/chambers. He said the water table is rising in low-lying areas of the city, and this is purely on account of sewage entering into the ground through the shoddy network around the city.
The groundwater, at most places in Margao, has already been destroyed due to the sewage seeping into the ground and is a serious health hazard for those using well/bore-well water. This fact, which could have serious consequences, is preferred to be ignored by our elected representative, Mr Coutinho charged.
“We strongly demand that our Margao MLA call for the inspection of the entire sewerage network system, by using proper methods, to check out for the leakage of raw sewage into the ground if he is genuine concerned about the health and welfare of Madgaonkars, Coutinho said.
This second inspection of our Margao MLA is nothing but a farce and a module to make his “probable candidate” get noticed; which “probable candidate”, may carry forward the legacy of inefficiency and conversion of Margao city into a big large slum.
