PONDA: A scooter rider was killed in a fatal road accident at Borim after a container truck allegedly hit his two-wheeler and the driver fled the scene without assisting the victim or informing the police.
According to Ponda Police, the case was registered on the complaint of PSI Krishna Gawas. The accident occurred on June 27 before 3.15 pm near Parpatiwada, Borim, while the Tata container truck was travelling from Margao towards Ponda.
Police said the accused, identified as Rajesh Kumar Ray, a resident of Rajepur, Motihari, Bihar, allegedly drove the truck in a rash and negligent manner and collided with a Dio scooter ridden by Nitin Gaude, a resident of Honsawada, Madkaim, Ponda.
The impact caused the rider to fall onto the road, where he was crushed under the truck’s right-side wheels, resulting in his death on the spot.
Police further alleged that the truck driver fled the accident site with the vehicle without providing medical assistance to the victim or reporting the incident to the authorities.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Ashish Velip of Ponda Police Station.
