PANAJI: In a shocking move, concerned citizens of Panaji were detained by Goa police for displaying placards during a carnival parade in Panaji this evening.
During the carnival float movements, some of the residents were seen displaying placards highlighting the problems faced by people due to intelligent city works and other environmental issues.
The citizens said that police told them to stop displaying placards and took them away to the police station.
“We were just moving peacefully with the crowd to create environmental awareness,” they said.
The citizens further said they were not sure why the government authorities took action against them for no valid reason.
The participants gave the message of ‘Don’t drink and drive, Save the environment among many others.
A large crowd was seen along the streets of Panaji to witness glimpses of the carnival parade. With chants of ‘Viva Carnival, youths danced to western beats and also on Konkani tracks.
