New Delhi: Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from a Sydney hospital and is recovering steadily after sustaining a spleen injury during the third ODI against Australia on October 25, 2025. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the batter is in stable condition and responding well to treatment.
Iyer suffered a blunt abdominal blow while attempting a diving catch to dismiss Alex Carey, which resulted in a spleen laceration and internal bleeding. The injury was promptly diagnosed, and doctors successfully controlled the bleeding through a minor medical procedure.
In an official statement, the BCCI expressed its gratitude to the medical experts who oversaw Iyer’s treatment. “The BCCI extends heartfelt thanks to Dr Koroush Haghighi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for providing Shreyas with the best possible care and ensuring a smooth recovery process,” the board said.
Following his discharge, Iyer will remain in Sydney for a short period to undergo follow-up consultations and monitoring before he is cleared to travel back to India.
The injury, initially suspected to be a rib issue, had led to Iyer being moved to the ICU for observation immediately after the incident. His condition later stabilised, and his recovery has since progressed well under medical supervision.
Iyer’s absence will be a setback for India ahead of the upcoming series, but the board assured fans that his rehabilitation plan is already in place and that he will return to action once he receives full medical clearance.
