MORJIM: A 30-year-old man from Silvassa died after the scooter he was riding crashed into a roadside electricity pole at Khend, Morjim, in the early hours of September 20.
The deceased has been identified as Akash Pandey, son of Umesh Kumar Pandey, a resident of Pramukh Vihar, Naroli Road, Silvassa, Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
According to police, the accident occurred at around 6.19 am when Pandey was travelling from Chopdem towards Morjim on a Yamaha Fascino scooter bearing registration number GA-03-AH-1019. Upon reaching Khend, Morjim, he allegedly lost control of the scooter, veered off the road and collided with a roadside electricity pole.
Pandey sustained severe injuries and was initially shifted to Mapusa District Hospital by ambulance. He was subsequently referred to Goa Medical College, Bambolim, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in the casualty.
Casualty Police at GMC informed police about the death at around 5.34 pm on September 20.
The incident has been registered as a motor vehicle accident under Mandrem Police Station MVA No. 32/2026. Police have stated that no foul play is suspected.
The deceased’s body has been preserved at GMC Bambolim.
