MARGAO: Representatives of various Comunidades from South Goa have urged authorities to expedite repair and renovation works of the historic Comunidade Building in Margao, citing visible structural deterioration and the risk of further damage during the monsoon season.
The matter was taken up in a meeting chaired by the Additional Collector-I, South Goa, where long-pending issues concerning the building and other Comunidade-related matters in the South Zone were discussed.
Delegates from Canacona, Chinchinim, Loutolim, Margao, Benaulim, Nagoa and Chicalim participated in the discussions.
Officials informed the meeting that the Public Works Department (PWD) Goa Division VIII (Buildings–South) has already begun preparatory steps for renovation and has received administrative approval from the government. The file is currently awaiting financial sanction, following which a work order is expected to be issued shortly.
Community representatives emphasised that roof repair works should be prioritised ahead of the monsoon to prevent water seepage and worsening structural damage. They also called for closer coordination between the PWD and Comunidade bodies to ensure timely and effective execution of the restoration work.
