PANAJI: The southwest monsoon has continued its steady advance over the Indian Ocean region, raising expectations of an early onset of monsoon conditions in Goa and along the Konkan coast in the coming days.
According to the latest India Meteorological Department (IMD) chart on the advance of the Southwest Monsoon 2026, the monsoon current has already progressed across parts of the Bay of Bengal, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and sections of the Arabian Sea. The northern limit of the monsoon as of May 25 extends close to the southern Arabian Sea and neighbouring regions.
The IMD’s normal monsoon onset map indicates that Goa generally receives the southwest monsoon around June 5. Weather observers believe current atmospheric conditions suggest favourable progress toward the west coast, including Goa.
With pre-monsoon showers already being reported in several parts of the State over the past few days, residents are preparing for the arrival of sustained rainfall. Authorities have also started monsoon preparedness activities, including desilting of drains, inspection of flood-prone areas and emergency response planning.
Farmers and the tourism sector are closely monitoring the monsoon movement, as the rainy season plays a crucial role in agriculture, water storage and seasonal tourism activity in Goa.
Meteorological officials are expected to issue further updates on the monsoon’s advance over Goa in the coming days.
