Mapusa: In a thrilling display of skill and teamwork, Sridora Caculo College of Commerce & Management Studies, Mapusa, and Don Bosco College, Panjim, emerged as the champions of the Inter Collegiate Hockey Men and Women Championships 2024-25, respectively. The tournament, organized by Goa University, took place from February 11 to 14, 2025, at the Hockey Turf, Dayanand Bandodkar Krida Sankool, Peddem, Mapusa.
Sridora Caculo College secured the men’s title by defeating Sant Sohirobanath Ambiye’s Government College of Arts and Commerce, Pernem, with a convincing 3-0 victory in the finals. The semifinals saw Government College, Pernem overcome Government College, Quepem, by 4-1, while Sridora Caculo College outplayed St. Xavier’s College with a 4-2 win.
On the women’s side, Don Bosco College, Panjim, dominated the finals against St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, winning 7-1. The semifinals featured St. Xavier’s College edging past DM’s College, Assagao, by 2-1, and Don Bosco College routing Rosary College, Navelim, by 6-0.
The four-day tournament drew participation from 11 men’s teams and 4 women’s teams. Mr. Vivek Naik from Government College, Pernem was awarded the Best Player in the men’s category, while Ms. Pearl Almeida from Don Bosco College, Panjim received the Best Player award in the women’s category.
The presentation ceremony was attended by Associate Prof. Smriti Borkar, Vice-Principal of Sridora Caculo College, Mapusa, and Guest of Honour Mr. Victor Albuquerque, Hockey Coach, Sports Authority of Goa. Other dignitaries included Dr. Cliffton Fernandes, College Director of Physical Education and Sports, Nirmala Institute, Altinho; Cap. Dr. Sam Braganza, College Director of Physical Education and Sports, Government College, Pernem; and Mr. Balachandra B. Jadar, Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University. They presented medals and trophies to the winners and runners-up.
The winning teams were composed of talented players: Sridora Caculo College’s men’s team included Nishit Hegde, Mahadev Naik, Abbas Khatib, and others, while Don Bosco College’s women’s team featured Chaitali Gawas, Shaina Almeida, Rhea Pires, and more.
