PANAJI: The state of Goa has received Rs 2352 crore from the central government for the year 2021-22.
The total compensation includes Rs 1758 crore for GST compensation, Rs 216 crore for central schemes and Rs 7.60 crore for the COVID-10 package.
Further, the state has been allotted Rs 111.04 crore in terms of the loan for capital expenditure, Rs 78.50 crore as grants for local bodies (Rural/Urban) and Rs 31.45 for grants in the health sector.
Earlier, the state had got Rs 150 crore as special assistance for Goa@60 celebrations.
As part of implementing the new tax regime, the centre has agreed to compensate the states and Union Territories (UT) with Legislative Assembly for any loss in revenue.
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime was implemented on 1 July 2017. The centre has agreed to compensate for the revenue shortfall for the first five years of the implementation.
On consistent demands from the states, the Government of India has agreed to extend the GST compensation cess till March 2026.
