PANAJI: Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar has clarified that the electricity rate of ₹12.50 per unit is being charged to industries for commercial power consumption due to a shortage of electricity and does not apply to ordinary consumers.
Addressing the media at Vidyut Bhavan in Panaji during the ‘Sarkar Tumchya Dari’ programme, Dhavalikar said the higher rate would remain applicable for 25 days, with the remaining supply charged at ₹8.50 per unit. He urged people to avoid confusing industrial tariffs with rates applicable to other consumers, remarking that they should not “do mix bhaji” while discussing the issue.
The minister also pointed to improvements in electrical safety, stating that the number of electricity-related accidents had come down. He explained that executive engineers and assistant engineers are responsible for overseeing installations involving generators, solar systems and streetlights, as well as resolving associated concerns.
According to Dhavalikar, complaints and grievances involving engineers and other Electricity Department personnel have also witnessed a decline.
Speaking about Goa’s renewable energy initiatives, he said rooftop solar installations and other facilities had collectively reached a capacity of 123 MW. The minister added that the state intends to expand this capacity further, with a target of doubling it by 2036.
