PANAJI: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday appointed Surykant Gaude, Secretary of UTTA, as state convener of Goa Pradesh Aadivasi Congress Committee (GPAAC), to look into the issues of the Schedule Tribe community of Goa.
While giving appointment letter to Suryakant Gaude from Navelim, Sakhalim the president of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Girish Chodankar said that it is very necessary to keep watch on governments functioning, in regards to providing facilities & welfare and various social schemes to ST and hence GPAAC will monitor it.
Ramesh Panshikar, Pandurang Ghadi and Mangaldas Naik were present on the occasion.
“BJP has so far only used ST community and Bahujan Samaj to gain votes and for vested interest. ST community is reeling through several problems, but their issues are not resolved by the government. We need to highlight them and bring it to the notice of the government.” Chodankar said.
He also said that there needs to be checked whether the utilization of ST funds is taking place properly or not. “This fund is given to the Tribal welfare Department for the welfare of the ST people. It should be used solely for the welfare of ST and should not be diverted for any other purpose. We will keep checking on this.” Chodankar said.
Chodankar said that Congress is working to strengthen the base and membership drive is also getting good response.
Suryakant Gaude speaking on the occasion said that he will try his level best to take ST community in the right direction and make their welfare. “Government is using us and our youths. Now our youths should understand and should build self confidence from education.” He said and lamented saying the government is misusing even educated youths from the community.
“We need to face the challenges and try to overcome them. I will try to give justice to everyone.” Gaude said further.
