PANAJI: A 23-year-old taxi driver sustained cut and bleeding injuries after he was allegedly assaulted with a sickle at a room in Panaji on September 8, police said.
The offence was registered at 1.19 am on September 9 following a complaint by Altaf Chapparbanch, a resident of Chimbel, Tiswadi.
According to the complaint, Altaf received a call from his friend Arjun around 4 pm, asking him to come to his residence in Panaji for some work. The complainant subsequently went to the room where Arjun was working as a caretaker and reached there around 4.30 pm.
Police said Altaf found their common friend Ankit at the room, while Arjun was initially absent. At around 5 pm, Arjun and Ramesh Tilli Bahadur allegedly arrived at the room and the group watched television.
The complainant alleged that during this time, he saw Arjun hand over a koyta (sickle) to Ramesh. Altaf said he attempted to leave the room, but Ramesh allegedly restrained him, abused him and attacked him with the sickle.
In an attempt to protect himself, Altaf allegedly used both his hands to block the weapon, sustaining cut and bleeding injuries to his hands, left shoulder and leg.
Despite the injuries, he managed to escape and ran towards Panaji Church. A passerby reportedly noticed him and alerted the police and 108 ambulance service. Altaf was subsequently shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, for treatment.
The complainant has alleged that Ramesh and Arjun restrained him and assaulted him with a deadly weapon, allegedly with an intention to kill him, citing previous enmity.
