PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed that there are no Tribal areas/ Schedule areas identified and notified in the State of Goa.
“There are no Tribal areas/ Schedule areas identified and notified in the State of Goa. The Scheduled Tribe population in the State of Goa is not concentrated in a particular area. Hence the Scheduled areas are not identified/ notified in the State of Goa,” said CM Sawant
The criteria implemented in identification and notification of the Tribal areas/Scheduled areas are: Preponderance of tribal population; Compactness and reasonable size of the area; A viable administrative entity such as a district, block or taluka, and Economic backwardness of the area as compared to the neighbouring areas.
He further said that to safeguard the land rights of the Scheduled Tribes, Forest Right Act, 2006 and Agricultural Tenancy Act, 1964 is implemented in the State of Goa.
“For upliftment of Tribals in the state, the Directorate of Tribal Welfare implements 22 State Schemes and 6 Centrally Sponsored Schemes,”he added
Sawant informed that there were 469 grievances received from the members of the ST/SC Community by the SC/ST Commission as on date of which 248 grievances have been disposed.
“The State of Goa has constituted the Tribal Advisory Council; One Tribal Advisory Council Meeting has been conducted till date,” he said
The Chief Minister said that there are no Scheduled Tribe areas notified in the State of Goa.
“The Scheduled Tribe population in the State of Goa is not concentrated in a particular / specified area hence it is not possible to identify/notify the scheduled areas in the State of Goa.,” CM said
