VASCO: Vasco Police Station has registered a case against three persons from Chimbel for allegedly demanding ₹10 lakh and gold as dowry in connection with a marriage proposal.
According to the complaint filed by Razak Shaikh, a resident of Mangor Hill in Vasco, the accused—Rashid Ahmed Chapparband, Nabi Rasul Lalsab Chapparband and Bibijan Chapparband—had initially agreed to the marriage of his daughter without any dowry conditions. However, on April 29 at around 1:00 pm at Mangor Hill, they allegedly demanded ₹10 lakh and five tolas of gold and threatened that the marriage would not proceed unless their demands were fulfilled.
Based on the complaint, police have registered an offence under Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI David Costa under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
