COLVA: Colva police have arrested three labourers from Chhattisgarh for allegedly murdering their co-worker aboard a fishing trawler at Mobor Beach following a quarrel during dinner and later concealing the body in nearby bushes.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sanjay Manjhi, Asish Kumar and Jagnandan Sidar, all natives of Chhattisgarh. The trio, along with the deceased Shshi Lakra, were employed as labourers on the fishing trawler “Asta Vinayak” belonging to Nilesh Zuvatkar of Betul and were residing onboard the vessel.
According to police, the incident occurred between the night of May 23 and the afternoon of May 24 near Mobor Beach opposite The Byke Heritage and Old Anchor area. The complaint was lodged by Roshan Ram Lakra.
Police said a quarrel erupted during dinner after the deceased allegedly placed his leg into the food plate of accused Jagnandan Sidar. The argument escalated, following which the three accused allegedly assaulted Shshi Lakra with a sharp object, inflicting a grievous injury on the left side of his neck, leading to his death on the spot.
After the incident, the accused allegedly hid the body in nearby bushes in an attempt to destroy evidence and evade arrest.
All three accused have been arrested, while further investigation is underway under PI Videsh Shirodkar of Colva Police Station.
