To hide the failure, the police have started a character assassination of the deceased, which is so cruel and talks volumes of the character of Goa Police itself. Why have these reports been leaked to the selected press? To pressure parents not to pursue the case further? Or not make statements before the media blaming shoddy police probe?
The father of the victim, with all good intentions, handed over whatever information he got from his daughters mobile to the police, thinking they would try and get some clue and nab the culprits.
Instead of unearthing the truth, the police started a smear campaign.
SURAJ NANDREKAR
It was disturbing to see back to back stories in vernacular media of police now targetting the family of Siddhi Naik, who died of drowning under mysterious circumstances, and her body found at Calangute beach.
The police tried to suggest that the victim had a fight with her parents over her late-night phone calls, chatting, partying etc.
So far, the police have questioned several family members and friends in this regard and have failed to zero in on the accused.

Instead of unearthing the truth, the police started a smear campaign against the girl, who is no longer in this world. They are using the same information from the phone to tarnish the image of this girl.
Simple logic, PI Nolasco Raposo and SDPO Porvorim Edwin Colaco, even if the girl had fights with family for two days, we also consider she had gone out partying. But isn’t it the police’ responsibility to find out how the body was in the condition; it was found?
Why is the police still in denial that it was a murder, even if we consider it was not rape, as per autopsy?
Yes, like every teenager, Siddhi may have close friends with whom she chats or makes calls or may even go out, but that does not give police the right to question her character. Is partying, late phone calls illegal in Goa?
Last tike CM Dr Pramod Sawant blamed the two girls for rape in Benaulim asking on the Floor of the House, what were doing so late?
The police seem to have taken a cue from their boss and now ask what the girl was teh girl talking on the phone late at night and why he was parting?
Don’t teenagers and parents have a fight? Does that mean the daughter can commit suicide and that too without clothes? Mr Raposo and Mr Edwin have a lot to answer to this.
Please, please, please, to camouflage your failures, do not suspect the girl’s character. If you cannot give her justice, at least let her rest in peace.
