PERNEM: A truck allegedly operating with a tampered registration number was found transporting metal aggregate dust powder, commonly known as murram powder, near the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Casarvarne, Pernem, prompting police to initiate an investigation.
According to the complaint lodged by Mahadev Shet, secretary of the Pernem Bardez Truck Owners Association, the incident came to light before 8 am on October 15.
The truck, a Swaraj Mazda driven by Shivananda Dannagi, a resident of Bijapur district in Karnataka, allegedly had its registration number manipulated. The vehicle’s registration was reported as GA-03-K-2845, while it was allegedly altered to GA-03-K-2945 to conceal its original identity.
The complaint further alleges that the truck was transporting murram powder clandestinely without obtaining the requisite permission from the concerned authorities, with the intention of securing unlawful personal gain and deceiving the authorities.
The complaint was lodged at 4.40 pm on October 15 by Shet, whose association office is located near the old RTO check post at Dhargal, Pernem.
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Jayprakash Jankar.
