PATRADEVI: Mopa Airport Police have registered an FIR against two persons for allegedly transporting sand illegally near the Forest Check Post at Patradevi in Pernem.
According to the state complaint lodged by ASI Ketan Atmaram Samant of Mopa Airport Police Station, the incident was detected on May 7 at around 12:30 am.
Police alleged that accused Sanjay Ram Ashish (26), a native of Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, was driving an Eicher truck bearing registration number GA-09-U-6123 while transporting sand mineral without valid permission.
The sand allegedly belonged to co-accused Shafin Khan, a resident of Xeldem, Quepem, who is stated to be the owner of the truck.
Police said the accused were found transporting approximately nine cubic metres of sand, valued at around Rs 20,000, allegedly extracted illegally from river areas. The sand, being government property, is prohibited from unlawful extraction and transportation.
Mopa Airport Police registered Crime No. 17/2026 under Section 303 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 3, 38 read with 62(1) and 62(2) of the Goa, Daman and Diu Minor Mineral Concession Rules, 1985.
Both accused persons were summoned under Section 35(3) of the BNSS. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Sagar Vazarkar.
