PANAJI: In the talukas of Bardez and Pernem, the minimum price of land has been raised to Rs 8,000 from Rs 3,000 by the state cabinet’s permission.
Following a cabinet meeting at Mantralaya, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant briefed the media, stating that the land price increase was solely motivated by commercial gain.
“We haven’t burdened the average person because the 500 sq m plot that was bought to build houses will still be available at the previous rate of Rs 3,000 per square metre,” he continued.
The government wants to develop the entire state and not a few areas. Hence, the hike in land price will discourage people from buying properties in Bardez and Pernem talukas, Sawant elaborated.
Additionally, the cabinet agreed to put up for online auction two million metric tons of harvested iron ore that was scattered about.
“The iron ore that is lying around will be auctioned off on the 30th, with approval from the cabinet.” But the grade of the ore up for auction will determine how much money is made from the online sale, he added.
Sawant continued, “The Supreme Court has granted permission for the government to conduct an online auction of the remaining iron ore.”
Additionally, the Chief Minister announced that two more auctioned blocks will see the start of mining activities in November and December of this year.
In relation to the property issue involving Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, the cabinet also accepted a proposal for the Mormugao Municipal Council to receive a one-time settlement scheme that waives interest.
Sawant notified that the transfer of eighteen lease vendors from the old market to the new market complex in Porvorim has been approved by the cabinet
