VERNA: Verna Police have registered a case against a scooter rider for allegedly driving in a rash and negligent manner, resulting in a serious road accident near Cansaulim Junction in Mormugao.
According to the state complaint filed by HC 5763 Sandeep Naik of Verna Police Station, the accident occurred on May 22, 2026, at around 9:10 pm opposite Kaiyas Pet World near Cansaulim Junction.
Police said the accused rider, identified as Saifuddin Shabal, a resident of Zuarinagar, Sancoale, was riding a Suzuki Access scooter and allegedly attempted to overtake a truck. During the manoeuvre, he reportedly moved onto the opposite lane and collided with an oncoming Yamaha motorcycle.
As a result of the collision, the Yamaha motorcycle rider, identified as Lohit Deka of Pirni, Verna, and the accused scooter rider sustained grievous injuries. The pillion rider on the Yamaha motorcycle, Pounima Basumatadi, also a resident of Pirni, Verna, sustained minor injuries.
Further investigation in the case is being carried out by HC Sandeep Naik of Verna Police Station.
