CANACONA: Two temples situated within 50 metres distance of each other in Loliem (Canacona) are burgled on Sunday night, with the thieves breaking as many as 6 Fund-Petis(Donation Boxes) and decamping with cash to the tune of rupees 25,000.
Canacona Police team led by Canacona PI Harish Raut Desai is at the site and awaits the dog squad to carry on with the investigation and trace the culprits, even as burglars are care caught on CCTV footage of both the Temples.
Five Fund-Petis (Donation Boxes) in the Keshav Devalaya placed at the five different Gods Mahadev, Keshav, Brahma Devi, Maruti and the Diety were broken open and the burglars have decamped with over 15-16 thousand of cash.
‘The entry is gained by breaking open the door of the temple. We normally as a matter of practice open the Fund-Petis every two months, and it was supposed to be opened last week, but because of one upcoming occasion, we have decided to open it in 4-5 days. There should have been more than 15 thousands in all the five Petis, which are broke-open and cash stolen’, informed Keshav Devalaya president Vithal Ramchandra Prabhu Mallyar.
In the nearby Damodar Devasthan, situated at a distance of 50 metres from the Keshav Devasthan, the burglars broke open two doors (including the main entry door and one inside door) of the temple, then with the help of an Iron rod apparently brought from the earlier targeted Keshav Temple, broke-open a strongly built Iron Donation box, decamping with cash of over 6000/- Besides, cash of rs.3000/- kept by temple priest at a secured place in the temple were also decamped. Interestingly, a second Peti placed a little ahead in the temple was untouched and not tempered.
As per CCTV footage, the burglars were caught in action, the burglary took place at about 10.30 on Sunday night. Canacona police led by Canacona PI Harish Raut Desai are at the site and await the arrival of a Dog Squad and Finger-Prints analysts to assist in the investigation.
According to sources, the temple priest of Damodar Devasthan who came early morning to perform puja noticed the theft and accordingly alerted the devalaya committee.
Along with with committee president Mallyar, Secretary Narayan Prabhugaonkar rushed to the temple and immediately informed police of the theft at both temples.
