VASCO: A parked Maruti Swift was damaged after an uprooted tree crashed onto the vehicle near the Velankanni Chapel close to Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) Gate No. 9 on Thursday. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.
The incident occurred when the tree suddenly gave way and fell on the parked car, damaging a portion of the vehicle. The impact drew the attention of nearby residents, motorists and passersby, who rushed to the spot.
Eyewitnesses said the tree collapsed without warning, trapping the vehicle beneath its branches. However, the driver escaped unhurt and no one else was affected.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel responded promptly and used cutting equipment to remove the fallen tree and clear the area. Other authorities also reached the site to assess the situation and coordinate the clearance operation.
Traffic in the vicinity was briefly disrupted while the tree was removed and the road made safe for commuters.
Although the exact cause of the incident is yet to be confirmed, preliminary indications suggest that recent heavy rain and strong winds may have weakened the tree, leading to its collapse. Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious during the monsoon and report hazardous trees that may pose a risk to public safety.
