VERNA: Verna police conducted a special drive against begging at traffic junctions within their jurisdiction on Thursday and booked two women under the Beggars Act.
During the drive, police found two women, residents of Dabolim and natives of Karnataka, allegedly begging at the Birla Cross traffic signal in Cortalim while carrying their minor children and soliciting alms from commuters.
Police said both women were booked under Section 4(2) of the Beggars Act for begging in a public place.
Considering the welfare of the minors, police immediately rescued both children. After obtaining necessary orders from the Child Welfare Committee, South Goa, the children were admitted to a Children Protective Home for care, protection and rehabilitation.
