MORMUGAO: In a significant move to address the long-standing infrastructure needs of the residents of Gowliwado in Verna, a new internal road construction project was officially inaugurated on Thursday. The event, held under the jurisdiction of the Quelosssim panchayat, was attended by Quelosssim Sarpanch Francis Xavier Figueredo, other panchayat members, and a sizable number of local residents.
Cortalim ZP member Merciana Vas, who launched the project, emphasized that this initiative marks a major milestone in fulfilling the community’s long-pending demands. “For over eight years, the people of Gowliwado have struggled with basic necessities such as water, roads, and electricity. Our MLA Anton Vas previously addressed the water crisis by laying new pipelines and resolved power issues with the installation of electric poles. However, the need for a proper road remained unaddressed,” Vas explained.
The new road project, valued at ₹8 lakhs, is designed to alleviate the hardships faced by the locals due to the existing damaged and irregular road. “The current road has been a source of significant inconvenience. With this new construction, we aim to enhance accessibility and improve the quality of life for the residents,” Vas added.
The local community has welcomed this initiative with gratitude, acknowledging the long-awaited infrastructure upgrade. The project is expected to bring much-needed relief and improve the overall living conditions in the area.
