NUVEM: BJP Leader Wilfred D’sa and Minister for WRD Filipe Neri Rodrigues said they would be resigning as MLAs and will take further decisions after speaking to supporters.
While D’Sa said he would be resigning as the MLA and will contest as an independent for the upcoming elections in February, Neri was unsure which party ticket he would contest the forthcoming polls.
“I will talk to my supporters and take a decision,” he said.
Neri is expected to join the Trinamool Congress, sources said.
D’sa, on the other hand, said he would submit his resignation to Secretary Legislature Namrata Ulman.
“Will be handing over my resignation as MLA Nuvem Constituency. After consultation with my 6 Village Panchayat Sarpanches & Panches and support from my constituents,” said D’sa on his social media account.
He further said that he has decided to contest as an Independent Candidate from Nuvem Constituency.
When asked BJP State President Sadanand Tanavade whether the party will extend its support to Minister Felipe Nery Rodrigues and Nuvem MLA Wilfred’ Babashan’ D’Sa, who have already decided to quit BJP and contest as independent candidates.
“We will field candidates against Felipe Neri Rodrigues in Velim and Wilfred D’Sa in Nuvem because the party has decided to contest all seats,” Tanavade said.
Nuvem is represented by Wilfred D’Sa, who contested and won as a Congress candidate but later switched to BJP.
