PERNEM: A 45-year-old woman from Mandrem died at the Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, on September 23, days after she reportedly sustained head injuries in a self-fall accident while travelling as a pillion rider.
Police received a wireless message from GMC Bambolim at around 12 noon on September 23, informing them that Deepali Kerkar had died while undergoing treatment.
According to police, Kerkar, wife of Mahesh Mhammal and a resident of Madhlamaj, Mandrem, was travelling with her husband from the Ganpati Visarjan venue at Madhlamaj towards Deulwada, Mandrem, when the incident occurred near HDFC Bank, Madhlamaj.
Police said the motorcycle reportedly slipped while crossing a speed breaker, causing Kerkar, who was riding pillion, to fall on the road. She sustained head injuries and was initially taken to CHC Tuem for treatment. She was subsequently referred to District Hospital, Mapusa, and later to GMC Bambolim.
She was admitted to GMC on September 19 and died on September 23 while undergoing treatment.
An MV Accident case, No. 30/2026, had been registered in connection with the accident.
Police said no foul play is suspected in the incident. Following the woman’s death, Mandrem Police registered UD No. 39/2026 under Section 194 of the BNSS.
The deceased’s body has been preserved at the GMC morgue, Bambolim. Intimation regarding the registration of the UD case has been submitted to the SDM Pernem and SDPO Pernem.
