QUEPEM: A woman from Quepem has fallen victim to an online job scam after being allegedly cheated of ₹1.12 lakh by a fraudster posing as an airline employee.
According to police, the complaint was filed by Penifa Fernandes, a resident of Poilemoll, Quepem. She reported that in the early hours of April 2, at around 2:54 am, she received a call on her mobile phone from an unknown person who identified herself as “Anamika,” claiming to be an employee of Air India Base Airline.
The caller allegedly offered to secure a job for the complainant and, under this pretext, demanded advance payment. Believing the offer to be genuine, the complainant transferred a total amount of ₹1,12,000 through UPI transactions.
Police said the accused cheated the complainant by inducing her with false promises of employment. A case has been registered, and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Somesh Prabhudessai of Quepem Police Station to trace the आरोपी and recover the defrauded amount.
Authorities have once again urged the public to remain cautious against fraudulent job offers and to verify the authenticity of such claims before making any payments.
