QUEPEM: A woman from Xeldem, Quepem, has fallen victim to an online loan fraud and lost Rs 1.12 lakh after being allegedly cheated by a person posing as a loan provider.
According to police, complainant reported that between May 23 and May 27, 2026, she applied for an online loan and was contacted by a person identifying himself as Saurab Khan through a mobile phone.
The accused allegedly promised to sanction a loan of Rs 2 lakh and induced the complainant to transfer money towards processing fees, insurance, GST, TDS, NOC and declaration charges.
Believing the representations to be genuine, the complainant transferred a total amount of Rs 1,12,115 to bank accounts provided by the accused. However, neither the promised loan amount nor any refund was received thereafter.
Police said the accused dishonestly cheated the complainant through a cyber fraud, causing her a wrongful loss of Rs 1,12,115.
