PANAJI: Goa is gearing up for the much-awaited 8th Bird Festival of Goa 2025, held from 17th to 19th January 2025 at the picturesque Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, Canacona, Goa. This three-day celebration of nature will bring together bird enthusiasts, conservationists, and experts to explore Goa’s incredible birdlife, with a focus on conservation, photography, bird tourism livelihood, and ornithology.
The festival will feature interactive sessions with distinguished experts in the field of bird conservation and related areas. Notable speakers include Dr. Dhananjai Mohan IFS, PCCF, HOFF Uttarakhand, Ornithologist Indrajit Ghorpade, Bird Photographer, Conservationist, Dr. Pronoy Baidya, Scientist, Onithologist, Dr. Madhura Nimphadkar, Ecologist, GIS Expert and Scientist, Nirav Bhatt, Bird Photographer, Researcher, Ornithologist. And Bird Guides of Eco Tour SHG, Bird Tour Operator
These sessions will provide valuable insights into sustainable practices, wildlife photography, bird watching, and the science of ornithology, further enhancing the awareness of preserving Goa’s rich avian biodiversity.
Additionally, the festival will offer guided bird walks and trails through the lush forests and wetlands of Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, providing participants with a hands-on experience of birdwatching and an opportunity to witness Goa’s diverse bird species in their natural habitats.
Registration for the festival is open online through the official website of the 8th Bird Festival of Goa until 14th January 2025. Participants can register by paying a fee of INR 3500. A concession is available for student delegates, with a reduced registration fee of INR 1000.
The inaugural ceremony of the festival will take place at the International Centre Goa, Dona Paula, Panaji, Goa, on 17th January 2025. The event will be inaugurated by the Honorable Forest Minister in the presence of the Honorable Chairman of Goa Forest Development Corporation and the Honorable Chief Secretary of Goa.
During the inaugural event, two books related to the Birds of Goa will be unveiled, offering a comprehensive guide to Goa’s avian species. Additionally, the Bird Mascots for Wildlife Sanctuaries in Goa will be launched, marking a significant step in promoting wildlife conservation in the state.
