PANAJI: The Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Monday slammed the BJP government over rising incidents of crimes and said that Home Department has failed to prevent crimes, but boast of detection.
Reacting to the incidents of murder and rapes in the state, Alemao said that criminals are not feared of police system.
“It is shocking that mentally challenged woman in the south Goa was gang raped by five persons. Every passing day we hear about rapes, murders and robberies. What this suggests is that the government has totally failed to prevent crimes,” Alemao said.
“Another shocking incident is that our Goan youth Amar Bandekar was killed at Arambol beach on Sunday night. This means our beaches are also not safe to move around,” Alemao said.
“Goa Police have failed stop murders, rapes and other crimes. Basically there is no fear of the police system, as they engage themselves in helping criminals to escape from custody,” Alemao said.
“We have seen the government boasting of detection of crimes in the state. But in reality it has failed to prevent crimes. Home department should check whether its staff does proper patrolling or if they are staff engaged in some other work,” Alemao pointed out.
“This is nothing, but total failure of law and order in the state and hence Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should give clarification on the rising crimes in the state,” Alemao said.
