PANAJI: In an application submitted to the High Court of Bombay, Goa, the Cable TV Networking and Service Providers Association of Goa (CNSPAG) is asking the department to stop cutting and removing wires from streetlight and electricity poles.
As the electricity department started removing internet cables in South Goa, this application was filed.
Department employees started removing internet cables from power poles in South Goa on Friday. Executive Engineer Kashinath Shetye helped linesmen start the process in the Aquem areas.
According to department authorities, only the wire bundles that were causing instability in the poles due to their haphazard installation were taken out. The Department also reminded them that the operators did not remove the wires in spite of several warnings.
A new deadline of January 31 has been set for the operators to either remove their wires from the poles or reimburse the Department for the expenses incurred in cutting or Cut them off.
The CNSPAG has also voiced concerns, following the Department of Information and Technology. The High Court has now received an application from the parent association asking for relief to guarantee continuous internet and cable TV connectivity while a petition is being heard and decided. Wednesday is the date of the hearing.
The cutting of cables has reportedly caused connectivity problems for a number of government offices, corporate offices, and cable TV stations that use Internet Protocol (IP).
The Department, however, is certain in its position that the wires endanger Goa’s power supply infrastructure and the general population.
