PANAJI: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Churchill Alemao today said that he has merged the party’s legislative wing into the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC).
Alemao also met the Speaker Rajesh Patnekar to submit the letter of legislation wing merger into TMC.
“I continue to be a MLA, why should I resign as an MLA. I have merged the NCP legislative wing into the TMC,” said Churchill speaking to reporters
He said that he is the only MLA of NCP and thus constitute not less than two-thirds of the members of the legislative group of NCP in the Goa Legislative Assembly.
“By a resolution dated 09-12-2021. the legislative group of NCP has agreed to merge with All India Trinamool Congress (“AITC”) and shall hereinafter function as the legislative group of AITC in Goa Legislative Assembly,” Churchill said.
He said that as much as I constitute the entire strength and thus not less than two-thirds of the members of NCP legislature party in Goa Legislative Assembly, the merge of NCP with AFTC for the purposes of paragraph 4(1) of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution of India is deemed to have taken place by reasons of the provision contained in paragraph 4(2) of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution of India.
Meanwhile, TMC has requested the Speaker may take note of the merger and allot a seat in the Goa Legislative Assembly to the undersigned, Churchill Alemao, as a legislator of the AITC.
Alemao had earlier this month said that he was sure to contest the upcoming assembly polls but was yet to decide which party he would contest from.
He had earlier said that he would not contest the election in an alliance with the Congress even if the NCP asked him to. He had, however, also said that only (NCP supremo) Sharad Pawar or Banerjee can fight against the BJP.
