PANAJI: Applauding the CARES (Coding and Robotics Education in Schools) scheme launched four years ago, the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said that from over a quarter million students nationwide, Goa shone with four first ranks at an International Computational Thinking Competition ‘Bebras India Challenge 2024’ and 22 students from Goa ranked in the Top 100 among a quarter million participants nationwide, indicating the success of the scheme.
Dr Sawant was speaking at a function organized to launch CARES Educational Resources, Products and Prize distribution ceremony organized by Project Management Unit Coding & Robotics Education in Schools (CARES) Scheme, Directorate of Technical Education in Porvorim.
The Chief Minister further said that the scheme has been very successful and has enabled Goan students to excel in IT education.
He said that otherwise students have to migrate to metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Poona, Bengaluru, Hyderabad which are regarded as IT hubs to get IT education.
Dr Sawant expressed confidence that this good results will double in the next decade. The credit for this success, he said, goes to those 67 Teach for Goa Fellows and the implementers of this scheme. He also congratulated the winners of the competition Goa Codes -2024.
Project Director ( PMU ) CARES , DTE. Dr. Vijay Borges in his address highlighted the initiatives of the Government towards the promotion of coding and robotics education in the State.
The endeavour of the Government, he said, will yield rich dividents in future. He complimented his team mates for their cooperation due to which he said the CARES scheme was implemented successfully in the State.
The CARES creative content creators Master Aditya D.Naik and Master. Amol S. Naik and the State Level Winners of GOA CODES 2024, the State Level Winners for various Competitions held during AY2024-25 and those who have contributed towards the ‘Coding And Robotics Education in Schools (CARES) Scheme’ were also felicitated at the hands of Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister while going around the exhibition put up on the occasion, evinced keen interest with regards robotics and appreciated the creativity of the students.
The Chief Minister on the occasion distributed Robotics Hardware Kits that was launched during the event, to all Government and Government-Aided Schools.
Secretary Education, Shri Prasad Lolyenkar IAS, Director, Directorate of Technical Education, Dr Vivek Kamat, Director Department of Education, Shri Shailesh Zingade, Nodal Officer for CARES Scheme at DoE, Shri. Melvin D’ Costa, and others attended the function.
Teacher for Goa Fellow, Ms Divya Naik compared the function while Nodal Officer CARES, Shri Melvin D’Costa proposed vote of thanks.
